English For Speakers Of Other Languages Tutors
Help Peckham clients improve English language and comprehension skills. Tutors may also work one-on-one with students who are trying to become U.S. Citizens.
Technology Volunteers
Help clients learn to use the computer. Volunteers help setup e-mail accounts, show clients how to search the internet and use Microsoft Office programs in the computer lab. Volunteers track computer use and answer basic questions. Volunteers may also work one-on-one with clients.
Corner Store Volunteers
Volunteers help restock, organize and distribute food and clothing items to qualifying individuals who are in need of assistance.
Art from the Heart Volunteers
Help artists with disabilities express themselves through visual and creative arts during individualized classroom instruction. Volunteers help the instructor coordinate projects, set up for classes and assist students in project completion.
Venture Crew 10 Volunteers
This scout troop is for adults with developmental disabilities. Its mission is to provide learning experiences that will increase opportunities, build skills and maximize chances of success for crew members at work, in relationships, at home and in the community.
Peckham operates two residential housing units for developmental disable adults. Volunteer opportunities are listed below.
Golf Activity Volunteer
Volunteers assist residents "play" golf. Volunteers work with residents to plan an appropriate golfing activity that they could play on the apartment grounds. Golfing equipment will be provided. The activity requires two, Tuesday nights of play per month in the late afternoon or early evening hours for one hour of golf.
Gardening Volunteer
Looking for volunteers with some gardening experience to help residents become more involved in the care and plantings on site. Volunteers would teach and supervise planting (from seed and potted plant), care, feeding, watering and separating techniques to residents through hands on demonstrations. The position requires two sessions, each month during May, June, July, August and September. Day(s) and times are flexible.
Bingo Volunteer
Volunteers needed to organize and call Bingo games. Volunteers assist residents in playing the game and calling numbers, verifying wins etc. The position requires a commitment of one session per month on a Saturday afternoon. Saturday and time are flexible.
Recreation Avtivity Volunteers
Volunteers help residents play Wii games. Ideally, the volunteer would meet with Housing residents two times per month and engage them in playing a Wii game for up to two hours. The Wii Game Station is provided, along with several Wii Sport games to play. Evening or late afternoon are the hours our residents have requested, you can pick the days of the week and they can change month to month as needed.
